Bee Activities for Preschool: Check Out Our Free-BEES

A little buzzing, a little creating, and a little curiosity—these free bee activities for preschool bring learning and movement together in one playful printable set.

Children can decorate a bee, discover honey bee facts, and try bee-themed breathing and yoga. Use the activities during an insect theme, add them to your spring learning, or pull them out whenever your children are curious about bees.

What’s Included in the Free Bee Printables?

The download includes three printable pages:

  • Bee coloring and activity page: Color it, paint it, or use it as a playdough mat.

  • Honey bee fact-finding page: Explore bees together and record what children learn.

  • Four bee breath and yoga pose cards: Bring a little bee-inspired movement and breathing into your day.

Choose one activity for a short session or combine them into a simple bee mini lesson.

Create: More Than a Bee Coloring Page

Set out crayons or markers and let children make their bee their own. Traditional bee colors are welcome, but so are purple wings and rainbow stripes!

You can also place the page inside a reusable dry-erase pocket and use it as a playdough mat. Invite children to roll, flatten, and shape dough to fill parts of the bee.

For another option, offer torn paper and glue for a bee collage. Using the same printable with different materials gives children new ways to explore and create.

Try asking, “Tell me about your bee.” Let their explanation guide the conversation.

Learn: Discover Honey Bee Facts Together

The fact-finding page gives children a place to share what they discover about honey bees. For preschoolers, make this a shared activity rather than an independent research assignment.

Start with a question: “What do you wonder about bees?”

Read a bee book together or explore a child-friendly source with an adult. You might investigate where honey bees live, what they do when they visit flowers, or how they make honey.

Invite children to choose something interesting they learned. An adult can write down their words, and children can contribute drawings where space allows. They don’t need to write independently to take part in the learning.

Keep their questions going:

  • “What surprised you?”

  • “What would you like to know next?”

  • “How could we find out?”

Meet the honey bee! This illustrated poster is included in the free bee activities for preschool—display it while your little learners explore these fascinating insects.

Move: Try Bee Breath and Yoga

Preschool learning doesn’t have to happen entirely at a table. The four bee breath and yoga pose cards give children a chance to explore the theme through their bodies, too.

Introduce one card at a time, demonstrate the activity, and invite children to join in. Follow the directions on each card and allow children to move in a way that feels comfortable.

Use the cards before your art activity, between parts of the lesson, or as a brief movement break. Children can also choose a favorite card to repeat.

Put the Bee Activities Together

Here’s an easy way to use the set:

  1. Wonder: Ask what children already know—or want to know—about bees.

  2. Explore: Share a book or investigate one of their questions together.

  3. Move: Try a bee breath or yoga pose card.

  4. Create: Offer the coloring page, playdough mat, or collage activity.

  5. Share: Record a discovery on the honey bee fact-finding page.

Spread the activities across several days if that works better for your group. There’s no need to finish every page at once.
