Yoga For Children?

Yoga is often seen as a practice for adults, but did you know that it can also benefit young children? In fact, many preschools and daycare centers have started incorporating yoga into their curriculum. But how exactly does yoga help preschool-aged children? And why is movement such an important aspect of learning for this age group?

First, let’s take a look at the benefits of yoga for young children. Yoga helps improve flexibility, balance, and strength – all important physical skills for growing bodies. It also promotes body awareness and coordination, which can be especially beneficial for children who are still developing these abilities.

What is YoGalore?

YoGalore is a curriculum that uses yoga and movement while nurturing skills in an environment that fosters learning. When children move, they learn. Studies have shown a correlation between movement and a child’s ability to process and retain information.

YoGalore also uses sensory-based activities (including STEM and STEAM) to help children develop both fine and gross motor skills, encourage social interaction, learn to follow directions, and receive a variety of sensory experiences designed to help regulate and balance the body’s response system.

I love helping teachers and parents like you bring the benefits of yoga into your classroom/home with ease. Time is precious. I created these resources with you in mind — to save you time and energy in your busy life. I am genuinely excited to share this with you! I think you’re going to love it.

Yoga & Movement

Let’s talk about how yoga and movement help children learn. Movement is essential for the development of gross motor skills in children. These are the large movements that involve the whole body, such as crawling, running, and jumping. By incorporating yoga poses and deliberate movement into their playtime, children can improve their gross motor skills while also having fun.

From yoga and movement games to telling stories with movement, there are so many ways to keep your child engaged. By exploring yoga poses with your children or students, you’re providing them with the tools they need for healthy growth.

What a wonderful gift — to be able to introduce children to lifelong proven strategies that can help them mentally, physically, socially and emotionally.

It’s not just about the physical benefits. Yoga also has a positive impact on mental well-being in young children. Through mindfulness practices such as breathing exercises and relaxation techniques, children can learn to manage their emotions and develop a sense of calmness. This is especially helpful for preschoolers who may be struggling with tantrums or have difficulty expressing their feelings.

Why Yogalore?

Movement has been linked to improved cognitive function in young children. When children engage in physical activities like yoga, it increases blood flow and oxygen to the brain which can enhance focus and concentration. This can be especially beneficial for children who have trouble sitting still or paying attention in class.

Yoga also promotes self-regulation and self-control in young children. Through the practice of yoga poses, children learn to control their bodies and movements, which can translate into better behavior and emotional regulation.

Whether it’s through structured yoga classes or incorporating movement into daily activities, there are numerous ways that yoga can benefit preschool-aged children. Not only does it improve physical skills and mental well-being, but it also promotes learning, growth and development in a fun and engaging way.
