I see you there — you teacher or parent who is trying to get things done for, well, the world during the busiest time of year. I’ve got you. I have THE greatest activities for Christmas for preschoolers.
Full disclosure: This lesson plan is one of the hardest lesson plans I teach all year. It keeps the kiddos moving and they LOVE it — lots of up and down and repetition (purposely). It won’t be hard for you or your students or children. You know why? Because you only have to do it one time and then you can rest awhile if you need to before doing it again. When I teach SIX classes back to back, two DAYS back to back!!!!
Jokes aside, this is a wonderful activity for the entire class or entire family when pretty much everyone needs a break. It’s our Christmas Story Yoga & Movement Pose Cards. It includes all the yoga poses for all the characters in the Christmas story plus the story itself with pictures of those characters for visual cues throughout the story. For children who can’t read yet, it’s a great way to following along with the story and the yoga poses work so well with helping the children remember the story.
I deliberately “overused” the characters names throughout the story, to keep the movement going. The yoga poses for the people and animals are first, so it’s best to go through those first, maybe twice. Then read the story that’s on the remaining cards. I like to do this activity on a large screen so the children can see what I’m reading as we do it together.
The picture for the characters are used in the story, so every time you see that character, you do that pose associate with it. It’s not that time consuming and children love grownups participating along with them.
If the Christmas story isn’t your jam, no worries. I have a five-pack bundle of winter theme yoga cards that is perfect for activities for Christmas for preschoolers and through the rest of the winter season.
