Movement games and activities are a wonderful way to engage with children while also being beneficial in a variety of ways. In Yogalore we try to include some games and activities after our sensory/creative exploration which are fun and challenging while also being active to help improve with both fine and gross motor skills.
Some examples might be that we set up an obstacle course, pick up marbles with our toes, play a game that incorporates music and yoga poses we may have learned that day, or choose a game or activity that requires a partner to encourage playing and getting along with others. Once a month we also have Game Day where we focus on games/activities with gross motor movement.
Some other examples of movement activities for preschoolers might include dance parties, and active playtime with a variety of props and toys. These types of activities are not only fun and engaging, but they also help to develop motor skills, coordination, creativity, and teamwork.
If you’re looking for more educational movement games and activities for your preschooler, there are many online resources available that can provide ideas and suggestions based on age group and developmental stage. Some examples include guided movement exercises focused on topics like numbers or shapes, simple yoga poses and stretches, or movement-based storytelling activities.
Whatever movement activities you choose for your preschooler, remember to keep it fun and engaging while also encouraging them to learn and grow through movement. Whether they’re actively exploring new movement concepts or just having a blast chasing their friends around the playground, these activities are sure to be beneficial for your child’s development and well-being.
YoGalore has several components that work together to help children be the best that they can be. Yoga, activities and games plus sensory/creative exploration are excellent ways to stimulate sensorimotor function and encourage learning.
