Yoga for kids is a great teaching tool. It thrills me to no end that many preschool and kindergarten teachers are using yoga regularly in their classrooms. Yoga has so many benefits for children — not just physical benefits, but also emotional/mental benefits. Before I go any further with using yoga as a teaching tool, let’s talk about the benefits for children.
Benefits of Yoga for Kids
- improves overall strength and muscle tone
- improves balance and coordination
- improves flexibility
- helps children manage stress and anxiety
- helps children’s self-esteem and self-confidence which can assist in social situations
- teaches children to self-regulate emotions
- calms the body
- helps memory and ability to focus
- improves impulse control
Another benefit of using yoga to teach your students? YOU also reap the benefits of practicing yoga along with your students! Everyone wins! I know it may sound daunting, but you must “start where you are”, wherever that might be. Just as you would tell your students: Do your best. That’s all you can do.
When explaining Yogalore and how you can use it to teach preschoolers, I want to make one thing VERY clear: YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A KIDS’ YOGA TEACHER TO USE YOGALORE. Yogalore was designed for teachers to use to teach their students, not ONLY for a kids’ yoga teacher to teach themed yoga to preschoolers. Yogalore is the tool you use to teach and it uses yoga to do that. This curriculum was designed for people who AREN’T yogis, who DON’T practice yoga regularly. Hopefully you will fall in love with yoga and it may become a part of your daily life, but I want to make sure teachers, parents and therapists don’t have to be yogis or particularly flexible. Anyone can use Yogalore.
Yogalore’s yoga pose cards can help you teach in a new way — a way that uses movement for your students to get the most out of your teaching. They can retain information and focus more while you are teaching.
