An Elephant Poster That Makes Learning Fun

The illustrated elephant poster is one of my favorite parts of this set. It gives children something to look at, talk about, and connect to movement as you explore elephants together.

Display it during your lesson, revisit it at your science center, or use it to prompt a conversation before children begin their coloring pages.

This is the same elephant poster included in the complete Yogalore Safari Lesson Plan, so you’re getting a little peek at how Yogalore connects animal learning with movement.

Try This Simple Elephant Mini Lesson

Start by asking, “What do you already know about elephants?” Read a few facts from the fact sheet and explore the illustrated poster together. Give children time to ask questions and share their ideas.

Next, try the elephant movement shown in the materials. Invite children to imagine their arm is a long elephant trunk!

Then offer the elephant coloring page or dot marker activity. Children can choose their own colors and add details to make their elephant unique.

Finish with the sentence starter: “My favorite elephant fact is…” Older children can trace the words and complete their thought. Younger children can tell an adult what to write. Tracing is optional, and everyone can draw an elephant in the space below.

You don’t have to complete every page in one sitting. Spread the activities across your animal theme or choose the ones that work best for your group.

Books to Pair with Your Elephant Activities

An elephant book makes a lovely introduction to the lesson. Read together, then ask whether children noticed anything that also appears on the fact sheet or poster.

You’ll find suggested books on the elephant fact sheet. Sharing a book before the activities gives children more ideas to talk about, write about, and draw.
