Making your own playdough stamps is so easy and they make cute party favors or a unique gift for children for any occasion. There are several ways to make your playdough stamps, I did three different kinds for this post. I tried to use things I already had around the house or things that I could reuse (like my *BPA-free plastic playdough containers).
Method 1: Making playdough stamps using plastic containers
You’ll need:
plastic containers (BPA-free)
foam shapes that will fit on your lid (with adhesive included), wooden embellishments, or any kind of three dimensional cut out that has depth and can leave an imprint in playdough. I have a die cut machine with small cut outs so I used it to cut out sticky foam and also cardboard shapes to glue onto my lids
industrial strength adhesive (if you’re using wooden cut outs)
clamp(s) (if you’re using wooden embellishments or something else that doesn’t have adhesive on the back)
If you’re using foam stickers, simply peel off the back and stick it on your lid. That’s it…unless…your foam sticker doesn’t have enough “depth” to it. I actually put two stickers, one on top of another for added depth so the impression would be more dramatic.
If you’re using wooden embellishments or something else that needs adhesive, simply put some of the adhesive on the back of the embellishment, place the embellishment on the lid, and then use a clamp to tightly adhere the embellishment onto the lid. Wipe off any excess with a damp paper towel. Allow to dry for several hours before removing the clamp.
Method #2: Using wooden discs — if you don’t have a saw or know how to use one
You’ll Need:
at least 2″ – 3″ wooden discs (pack of 100)
wood glue
embellishments
clamps
Using the wood glue, take four or five discs and put glue in the center of all but one of the discs. Stack them on top of each other, with the one disc with no glue is on top. Clamp discs together and all to dry for several hours. Use damp paper towel to wipe away excess glue.
Once dry, simply use the wood glue again to glue your wooden embellishment on your discs and clamp again and allow to dry for several hours.
Method #3: Using natural wood slices
pkg of natural wood slices
wood glue
wooden embellishments
clamps
This one is pretty easy. Use the wood glue to adhere the wooden embellishments onto the natural wood slices. Wipe away excess glue. Clamp and allow to dry for several hours.
I really love these stamps. They were easy to make and several ways to make them, based on things you might already have at home. Make sure children are properly supervised while using the playdough stamps. Happy stamping!!
