Preschool children love it when I teach the insect theme!!!! What is it about children and bugs? Even if they’re grossed out, often times they are still intrigued by the fun facts they learn about those little creepy crawlies. I know sometimes it’s difficult coming up with new ideas and activities when you teach a lot of the same themes from year to year.
Fear not teacher of small humans — I have a great activity that’s educational, fun (fun to look at too ), and works on those gross motor skills and keeps the children moving which can actually help them learn. Actually this activity has many more benefits than those I just mentioned. How is that possible? Because it’s YOGA!!!!!
Our insect theme yoga and movement cards are perfect for preschool, kindergarten and even first grade. This yoga pose card set includes children (not illustrations) doing yoga poses that are theme-related and also includes fun facts on most of the pose cards. There is a card with all the Yogalore components that make up a Yogalore lesson plan, which includes some suggested songs, story, and sensory activity. Use these cards every day you do your insect theme!
When I use my yoga pose card sets for classes, I use my tablet and connect it to a flat screen TV as a monitor. I do the poses along with the children so they can see what’s on the screen, plus someone in person doing the poses. I encourage you to do the poses along with the children — they love seeing you practice yoga too! Plus you’re also getting the same benefits they are. You don’t have to have any prior experience with yoga. It’s okay to learn right along with the children. What a great activity to experience together!
I have several favorite themes I teach each year — dinosaurs, ocean animals/beach, outer space and bugs/insects. I have more favorites, but those are at the top of my list. For these and other products, check out our stores on Etsy and TeachersPayTeachers.
