DIY Yogalore Rest & Relax Activity Kit

With summer approaching it’s a great time to start planning ahead and thinking about activities for the kids for summer. I have been putting together a variety of activity kits and wanted to share this one because the kids in my classes LOVE it. These are not only great for your own children, but they make awesome birthday gifts for friends too.

Let’s begin with a container for your activity kit. I am taken with the Dollar Tree’s large food storage containers. They are the perfect size, relatively durable for our purpose of storage, and yes, they’re a dollar!!!!! I liked them so much I ordered a ton from their website and use them for so many things I do in my classes.

With our yoga pose card deck now available for download, I have also been working on some yoga pose sequences using cards from the pose deck. I have started with the Bedtime/Calming Yoga Pose Sequence which is also available with pose cards included or you can get the sequence without pictures/pose cards here. I included the Bedtime/Calming Yoga Pose Sequence in with my Rest & Relax activity kits.

Once you have a suitable storage container, you’ll need to stock it with wonderful, calming items. This is where you can add the Bedtime/Calming Yoga Sequence. A Rest & Relax kit isn’t complete without sensory bottles and eye pillows! Our instructions for making sensory/calming bottles here.

Another thing that is very popular with Rest & Relax is to use a “breathing buddy”. A breathing buddy is a small stuffed animal a child puts on their belly and helps them focus on their breathing. When their belly fills up with air, the breathing buddy rises, and when they exhale, the stomach lowers and the breathing buddy lowers as well.

I purchase my eye pillows from Amazon. I like the ones scented with lavender and they’re a big hit with the children. For about $25, you get a set of four eye pillows. This might seem like a lot/pricey, but you could have an eye pillow for each family member. You could use what you want for your own kit and then what you have left to make gifts for friends! One day I will post something on how to make your own eye pillows, but for now, these are my first choice.

You can also make your own playlist and have it ready to go for Rest & Relax. Remember we want calming music and activities for the children to get into our “rest-ready” pose. We will also have more items for Rest & Relax soon, so keep checking in with us. For more information on Yogalore’s rest-ready pose, read our post on rest-ready tips.
